LUCKNOW: Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the richest of them all... The quest to find earning capabilities of a common man residing in Uttar Pradesh, still remains unsatiated.
The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has, however, released some statistics which significantly benchmark the economical status of some of the major UP towns.
The agency, in its review , has listed the average annual bank deposits of an individual in a given district to establish the economical credentials of the concerned district.

According to the CMIE status report, Gautam Buddhanagar, bordering Delhi, has engrossed per capita deposit of Rs. 45,934 per annum.
This means that ,on an average, all 11 lakh residents of this district deposit a sum of Rs. 3,827 on a monthly basis. The second in list is the state capital Lucknow with an annual average deposit of Rs. 41,889 per person - Rs. 3490 per month.
Interestingly,VIP constituencies represented by star politicians of the state do not seem to be doing well enough on the economic front.
Kannauj represented in Parliament by chief minister Mulayam Singh's son Akhilesh Yadav has per capita deposit of Rs 3,392.

Mainipuri which is chief minister's assembly seat has a per capita deposit of Rs. 3,942 whereas Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli is a shade better with Rs. 4,174 monthly savings...

There are just seven districts which account for deposits of more than 10,000 rupees - Rs. 833 per month. They include the KAVAL towns and also Ghaziabad.
The list reads: Gautam Buddhanagar (Rs. 45,934); Lucknow (41,889); Kanpur Nagar (Rs. 20,998); Ghaziabad (Rs 15,263) ; Agra (Rs. 13,693); Meerut (Rs 12,319) and Allahabad (Rs 10,931).
Now which towns are on the lower rung. Shrawasti, a small district and a Buddhist pilgrim centre bordering Nepal, is sitting on top of this ill fated list.
This district which has a population of 11.6 lakh, a literacy rate of 34.2 percent (18.8 percent among women) and a population density of 1,043 persons per square kilometre, accounts for a measly sum of Rs. 2,016 deposited in the banks per person per year. That means an average deposit is just Rs. 168 per month.
There are seven districts which have average deposits of less than Rs. 3,000 per year. They are Shrawasti (Rs. 2,016); Badaun (Rs. 2,394), Maharajganj (Rs. 2,865); Kaushambi (Rs. 2,872); Bahraich (Rs. 2,868); Siddharth Nagar (Rs. 2,908) and Chitrakoot (Rs. 2,960).
Also, in all there are 41 districts which have average annual deposits of less than Rs. 5,000 per person - less than Rs. 417 per month. The state average for UP is Rs. 7,186 per person per year - approximately Rs 600 per month.
